About Dr Silke Newman
Hi, I’m Silke. I’m based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, and work with people across the region — in-clinic, online, and via home visits.
Since 1994, I’ve been drawn to working with autistic people, individuals with neurodiverse learning profiles. With over 26 years in the NHS (most recently as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist), I now bring that experience into my private practice.
I speak from both professional and personal experience: as someone with lived neurodivergence, I use a neuro-affirmative approach rooted in dignity, respect, and curiosity.
I’m honoured to collaborate with people (aged 14 to older adulthood) who are autistic, have ADHD, or have diverse learning needs—alongside their families and support networks. While I bring knowledge and evidence-based methods, I deeply believe that the truest expert on your experience is you. I listen, reflect, and adapt — together we co-design what therapy, assessment, or consultancy looks like for your life.
Training and background
I’m a Registered Clinical Psychologist (HCPC) and Chartered Psychologist (BPS). I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and maintain continuous professional development through supervision, training, and research engagement.
Over my career, I’ve supported people across community, inpatient, and forensic settings, and have led multi-disciplinary teams in adult Learning Disability services. This breadth of experience helps me integrate psychological models with real-world accessibility and compassion.
Values
Curiosity. Compassion. Clarity.
These shape every part of my work. My aim is to create spaces where people feel seen and understood without judgement or pressure to mask. Neurodivergence is not something to be “fixed” — it’s a difference to be recognised, supported, and celebrated.
My role is to help you understand your mind and environment so that both can work together more smoothly.
